Canon EF-S 18-55mm kit lens = 3x zoom from 18mm... bai, max focal length (55mm) divide nimo by widest (18mm)... ana ra na... hehehe... basically ang ato gi compute is ang zoom sa lens itself, to be able to comapare it with Point & Shoot cameras, tan-awon gyud nimo iya lens specs, its focal length... its written man usually sa tips sa lens of any camera, even on some cellphones.. Olympus Zuiko 40-150mm (3.75x)....

kit lens 18-55mm is 3X nga optical zoom... 18 x 3 = 54 (55mm and ila gibuhat), my tamron 28-75mm f2.8 lens is also considered a 3X zoom lens, while my canon 17-85mmIS is a 5X zoom lens. a 28-300mm nga lens can be considered a 10X or 11x for marketing purposes but it actually is a 10.71X zoom.

comparing this to a 35mm standard full frame (film camera), the 18-55mm kit lens attached to a 20d or 400d which has a 1:1.6 crop factor, your kit lens is equivalent to a 28-80mm lens (28.8-88mm to be exact). However if the same lens is attached to a 5d or 1ds (full frame dslr or film body... which ang ef-s dili pwede gamiton ani nga mga dodies) your 18-55mm lens remains an 18-55mm lens since you will have a 1:1 crop factor in relation to the film or sensor size.

Kit Lens 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S DX. Was gonna get the 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX but the salesman suggested to just save up and wait for the next batch of VRII Lenses.
