The technology for accessing the Internet via satellite (TV feed, see http://computer.howstuffworks.com/question606.htm) and cell phones (used as a modem, see http://www.pcworld.com/howto/article...11,pg,1,00.asp) has been in commercial use in a lot of countries for a while now. Frankly, I am surprised that cellphone providers in the Philippines do not already offer this service (or am I misinformed), considering that the country is considered as an early adopter of cell phone technologies compared to say, the United States. Case in point, GSM is just starting to catch up in the United States.

dial up via GSM would be costly. I would rather suggest you go for dream.

Here's an interesting link (dated) about faxing over GSM from your computer. One wonders--if u can fax, why not DUN? Not that simple, probably... http://navasgrp.home.att.net/tech/cingular/fax.htm.

Another, more recent link from one of those numerous cellphone forums. The topic is about using cellpones as an analog modem :http://www.cellphoneforums.net/t191146.html

bro,
try inquiring for meridian telekoms, they are offering wireless internet connection of i think 800pesos per month unlimited. All you need is a Wi-Fi modem and they will provide other things needed.

email to this person for inquiry... jjobus_channelsales@meridiantelekoms.com

im not advertising for SMART Communications. but they have these ads that they can provide two times faster than dial-up connections thru their SMART Wi-Fi (wireless fidelity). As i have known, Smart uses their cell sites as hot spots so u can access the internet 'wirelessly'

i have asked a friend of mine, a subscribe of SMART Wi-Fi, that SMART staffs will be putting 'antennas' and your home and gadgets for you NIC so it can communicate with the cell site, no need for a modem.

IMO, speed will be faster if your nearer with the cell site contrary to what they are saying that its 2x faster than dial-up.
