Thumbs down IPHONE3G + GLOBE users watch out!

hello fellow istoryans,

I will summarize what happened to me so it will be easy to read.

I've been a globe user for 7 years now, got my iphone last november.

my monthly bill is around 500-700 only as i dont use my mobile phone regularly.

as i learned the iphone's internet connectivity, i can turn off 3g, edge, wifi, when i dont want to use it

i only use wifi access at home for internet.

last may i tried to use my edge because of my overnight stay.

I've been billed per KB charging, my bill soared to 900+, 400+ for internet

As KB-charging is the default charge

I change my subcription to TIME-BASED or 5 pesos per 15 minutes.

last june i used my phone's EDGE for 10 minutes

i quickly turned off my edge/3g to get disconnected and will only be charge for pesos

that's the last time i use my phone's 3g/edge connectivity

tuesday, july 28, 2009, my bill is about 500+ so no problem

thurday, july 30 2009, globe's 290 sent me a message that my unbilled usage is 1881.79

the first message i read after i waking up, i just press the menu button to exit

i never really paid attention to these messages.

then this afternoon, july 31, i received another message from 290 that my unbilled usage is 2504.87

i was in rage, i tried to text PLAN UNBILLED to 2312

Local = PHP 10.71
Other Network = PHP 20.10
Local Voice = PHP 12.05
105 SMS = PHP 93.75
Internet = PHP 2395.02 WHAT THE?? total = 2531.63

i tried looking for our past billing so i can file a complaint regarding this. i didnt found mine

but found my cousin's bill who also has a billing of 3114.52 internet = 2314.74. (another iphone3g user)

my father pays for all of our billing so when i ask my father, he told me that

he just paid it anyway all billings last tuesday, because my cousin is currently in manila, maybe,

he really need to use it, but his normal bill is also 500-600.

so we went to globe and complained. here's what the lady said

If you use your wifi, and the signal is low, it will automatically use gprs and you will be charge.

i said i turned off all my internet connectivity, why will i be charged

i only use my wifi at home.... she said, use airplane mode.

i said so then i cant be called or be texted, and cant use my phone for outgoing purposes

she said yes if you dont want to be charged. what a lame answer

i said that's so stupid, i might as well disconnect all services except voice call and text

she said it's 24 hours to be in effect, i said so maybe tomorrow my bill will reach 4000

if i want to get all of it disconnected, how long would it take?

she said right away, so i said might as well cut my line

when i asked if the 3k from my cousin's bill will be credited back, she said it will be

investigated for 2 weeks, this is so stupid.... another lame customer service

i told her how bout my bill, she told me that it cant be investigated as of today as

the next billing will be on aug. 9. and they need the actual billing for the investigation.

oh by the way at first we decided to cut the 2 number mine and my cousin's

but he is under the loyalty contract and need to pay 10k to cut it,

i was about to tell my dad to accept it and not pay for it but i know my dad dont want

something like this, as not to pay something and leave it to be disconnected

or running away from the problem

he said it will end on march of 2010 anyway, might as well wait.

500 per month X 8 = only 4000,

so for iphone + globe user, try to text "plan unbilled" to 2312 (without the quotes)

especially for people using wifi at home or at work. i hope this is only their own timer

glitch. so it can be waived.

Yet another stinky and disgusting customer service here in the Philippines. I experienced similar situations from Globe Telecom, Globe Broadband and Smart Bro.

I see where you're coming from. Sad thing is, there's not a government agency here who could defend the general consumer's interests. I'm not so sure if DTI even does.

Then again, we better be careful.

all i can say is.... you haven't fully controlled your iphone.....

you might not notice it

but app store, weather, can connect to the internet by itself without you asking... that could be the reason why your charges went up....

Even if you disable 3G..... EDGE and GPRS is always active....

iphone is an internet hungry phone... it will keep on logging to the internet when it wants too....

remove the apn.... if you don't want any internet....

Good thing you didn't go international roaming.... that would be in $$$$.....

plenty of stories like that....

if i were you, buy or use another cheap phone and a globe prepaid sim

insert your planned sim to ur cheap phone

and insert the prepaid sim to ur iphone

and check ur iphone if it really can connect the wifi even it has low signal...

this could be your last resort to prevent from having big bill

p.s. im a globe planned user before and they used to pay me with huge bill amount...

image my sms they billed me 1500 and my internet connection billed me 1300

ako gibuhat, tabla.com para walay daghan labad

fellow 3g iphone user here.

been a loyal globe user for 12 years na.

to be sure nga walay hidden charges,

1. turn off location based services.
2. turn off 3g
3. turn off edge
4. turn off push notifications
5. if you have mail accounts go to
a) settings > mail, contacts, calendars
b) select fetch new data
c) turn Push to OFF
d) select Fecth MANUALLY
e) Select ADVANCED
f) then select the EMAIL account you have setup
g) then in Select Schedule select Manual

The new OS3.0 features better push notifications of all services on the iPhone and even from 3rd party apps. This is really great for business users who are always monitoring emails and the like. That is why the iPhone plans and Blackberry plan come with a bundled data to cater to these specific features on the phone.

The phone and the service is not at fault here. Although I must admit that the customer service of Globe need to be retrained regarding the products they are offering.

Another great option is to have your iphone jailbreaked. Then install SBsettings. This 3rd party app lets you control the data connections and alot more directly on the springboard. IF you turn off a feature using SBsettings - like for example 3g - it will be off no matter how you turn it on in the Settings.

That's Not really work.
If you intalled Sbsettings, you can see DATA IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx even off EDGE.
Before my bill was only below P100 for the internet, since 3,o firmware it went P1k+.
I already off the 3G and the EDGE but still it charged for the internet because of the data IP.
best way is change APN.
