Default MemCard (MMC, SD, MS, xD) Compatibility Matrix

added Canon digicams. Canon generally use Compact Flash (CF). i posted those using non-CF.

this came in via PM inquiry...

Here's a review of the A400 indicating MMC compat -> http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/ca...ew/index.shtml

I'm quoting a portion of the review...

Quote:
Canon includes a 16MB Secure Digital (SD) memory card with the A400, and that won't hold too many photos at the highest quality setting. So you're going to want a larger memory card right away. The camera can use SD or MMC cards, but you'll want to use the former due to its superior performance and capacity. I'd recommend a 128MB SD card as a good place to start.
Here's a precaution against use of MMC on the A400 -> http://www.canon-asia.com/index.jsp?...t&prod_type=dc

Select Powershot A400 FAQ, and search the keyword "MMC" ...

Quote:
Precaution for MMC (Multi Media Cards)
This camera is designed to perform optimally when used with genuine Canon-brand SD cards. You may use multi media cards with this camera. However, Canon makes no warranties concerning the use of multi media cards.

does MS PRO duo support always mean MS duo compatibility?

Default MemCard (MMC, SD, MS, xD) Compatibility Matrix

RULE on SD and MMC:

all SD compatible devices are SD and MMC compatible

all MMC only compatible devices are NOT SD compatible

therefore MMC cards will work with ALL SD and MMC devices!

********************

what this means?
for me...MMC is better than SD!

now some will argure...im sure

SD is faster... i think not really in todays standards...also if you consider most handheld devices specially smartphones doesnt feature super high speed writes and read speeds anyways! for me, you really cant tell the speed difference specially on cellphone usage (maybe in cameras... NOW with this new developement na MMC with a maximum read speed of 22.5 Mbit/s and a write speed greater of 18Mbit/s, no SD advocate can say MMCs are slow poke

read on...
http://69.56.255.194/?article=16404

some would say SD is more durable...
not really...i have mmc thats 5 years old and still running its water resistant and shock resistant too
Both MMC and SD cards use metal connector contacts, instead of the traditional pins-and-plugs, so they aren't as prone to damage during handling. They are both also rated 2,000Gs shock tolerance...F1 race car drivers experience about 10Gs when thier car crashes to a wall at top speed...but in memory card world that equates to about a 10FEET drop and survive HDD and micro drives have tolerance of about a foot drop...

it has writeprotect feature...
now realy...is there real use for this?? hehehe...i think not...(everytime you take a picture you get an error coz it cant write)

copyright feature...
this acutally takes out several 100KB of user space from the SD so less can be used by the user...

MMC are designed to operate at lower voltage; thus mobile devices will have longer battery life

SD are more expensive too...

just trying to open up the mind...
no violent reactions please hehe

**********

btw blitz, kindly add PENTAX optio S series uses SD/MMC
Optio S
Optio S4
Optio S4i
and the newest Optio S5i
all uses MMC/SD

**********

older phone pud like nokia 9000 and 9110 both communicators uses MMC only

hope this helps

BTW there is also an even newer MMC that has transfer rates up to 52 MBytes/sec

however i have to admit...SD has one big advantage over the MMC standard...SDIO
