Port Seafood Restaurant
Address: Waterfront, Lahug

Cuisine: Filipino

The interiors are basically in blue and white... not as classy, but the place is comfortable and they have really good Filipino food. It's been a month since I've last gone there but as to what I can recall, prices of the dishes were mostly 130++(a la carte). I highly recommend their Kare-Kare and their Baked Talaba. As for drinks, they serve bottomless iced tea and softdrinks. They also have a bar for those who'd appreciate some wine and spirits.
For the service staff, they were really friendly and considerate. The last time I dined there, their ACU was kinda broken and the "swing" function wasnt working. But the waitstaff were quick to fix it (and nudged it to another direction. hehe)

They also serve buffet for lunch and dinner, i think. 299php/person for dinner and 199php/person for lunch IF I'm not mistaken.

Enjoy!

Black Angus

Since we weren't able to celebrate Valentine's, we decided to have a post Valentine's dinner. It was a choice between Arano's, Brescia, Hola España or Black Angus. Black Angus, which won our vote, is located at Country Mall in Banilad, my wife looked at the restaurant and exclaimed "No one's there!", I then replied "Well, we'll never know how their food is until we try right?".

As we opened the doors of Black Angus, the familiar cozy ambience that you can only get from fine dining restaurants, welcome you. We were immediately approached by one of their service people and given the menu. I looked around and it was a far cry from what was outside, the noise of Gaisano Country Mall was subdued by the rather comfortable setting of the Restaurant.

After choosing our meal for the night, Fillet Mignon (medium-well) and diet coke for her and a Tender-Cut Steak (medium rare) and a glass of house wine for me. We were left alone as the waitress disappeared to have our dinner cooked. Of course, we conversed about our day and how it was good to go on a date again.

We were not alone in the restaurant, there was another group of people huddled near the corner. One of which was familiar, a face I've probably seen in some the events I've covered for Zee Lifestyle Cebu. Soon enough people started coming in by batches, small little cliques if you will, that soon fills up the restaurant.

Not more that 10 minutes our food was served. Served with my steak was mashed potatoes (a choice that can be made between rice pilaff, garlic rice, plain rice or mashed potatoes), buttered veggies and peppercorn sauce (by the way, i suggest that you get the demi-glaze sauce instead) . The meat was indeed tender and cooked just right, cooked but still juicy. Perfect with my glass of red wine.

It cost me about Php 750.00 for that delicious meal. It's a bit steep but hey, it was a post-valentine's dinner.

My score 9/10.

hehehe u wer lucky u didnt go there on the 14th... went there with my wife on valentines day grabe ka gubot...
there was one incident na naa nakig away sa ila supervisor or manager man cguro to kato laki na taas nya bati kaayo pagka handle sa ila supervisor as in di jud cya kbaw mo handle ug customer ni abot jud ang point na nag walkout nalang cya nya ila nlang waitress ang gipatiwas storya sa customer... our orders were served dugay kaayo pero its ok coz valentines man pod nya full packed jud cla kaayo as in mura nagud mo ug elbow2elbow sa uban pod na table

the food was ok but not the best expected man gud na mura ug davids hehehehe well we ordered the hungarian sumthin for appetizer which looked like longanizas served with fries i thot way lami kay bati man ug nawng pero it was really good... my wife ordered the fillet steak which cost 200+ while i tried their rib-eye steak which cost 700+... their steaks wer ok even if they wer that bz for the price i would say it was worth it... for dessert we tried the choco lava which was yuuummmy the whole dinner cost us around 1,400 and i would say sulit raman pod

OT: this is also one of the reasons why we don't go out on Valentine's day.

Try the ff:
Goulash - The best i've ever had. (ive never had authentic goulash made by an austrian hehe but if the real one is anything
like the one they have...then  )
Just had to let you know that "goulash" originated from Hungary, not Austria. My pride jumjped up there as a percentage of Hungarian blood runs through my veins. We can't give Wolfgang Puck (Austrian) credit for everything... heheh.

Carlito's Way

It was my fault that I had procrastinated and waited until the "day of" to try and find a place to eat on Valentine's Day. To make matters worse, football practice ended kind of late. By the time I went and picked up flowers and made it home, it was about 7:30 pm. So I quickly showered and dressed. I had already found out that the dinner buffets at Marco Polo and Marriot were not only sold out for that night, but also for the next 2 nights!! I began to worry. I then went online to get some help from a place where I have leaned on so much for information about Cebu.... right here at ISTORYA.NET.... heheh.   So I found a couple of places that looked like they might be suitable and I though that a sit down dinner would probably be more appropriate for Valentine's Day anyway. I saw some good reviews for La Tegola, so I called there and they had reservations available. Unfortunately though, there was a set dinner meal, which was a choice of a main course of fish or pork chops. I was not really in the mood for fish and we had just so happened to have pork chops the night prior... so that idea was shot down. I then thought about Black Angus that also had good reviews, but she didn't want to eat in a "mall" restaurant. Oh well, I didn't see the difference but I was kind of in the "doghouse", so I didn't press the issue. I then ran across a couple of mentions about Carlito's Way. The reviews were mixed, one stated it was lami and affordable, others said that the food was nothing special, and some claimed that the supposed imported beef wasn't imported at all. Well after convincing my wife that affordable doesn't necessarily mean that the food is not good (keep in mind that at this point, she was a little pissed off at me and wasn't very agreeable about anything I suggested)... I kind of got that hint when I arrived home and she was in her pj's instead of being dressed and ready to go out. So I called and made reservations and shortly thereafter we were on our way.
It was about 9:30 when we arrived at the door of the restaurant. When we opened the door, everyone stared at us as if we crashed a wedding party. There were no tables available and nobody to greet us at the door. After standing at a wall near the door for a couple of minutes, a waitress found a spot for us at a table for two. After we sat down, it took about 5 minutes for them to clear the previous customer's dirty dishes. So we were handed menus, which were not that extensive but I remember someone from Istorya recommending the Flank Steak, which was listed as their specialty. So we both ordered that (medium rare), which came with the soup of the day (cream of asparagus), a choice of mashed potatoes or rice (I chose potatoes, she chose rice), and veggies (green beans). We also ordered two appetizers of sauteed mushrooms and bacon. For soft drinks, we ordered the only thing that they had available at that point... C2 iced bottled iced tea. After a while we began to wonder what was taking so long with the food but I kept upbeat and tried to remember that it was Valentine's Day and the restaurant was at capacity (although only about 40 people total?), I also thought to myself, "Why didn't they at least bring the iced tea?" Well, they finally brought the appetizers and the bottled drinks. We had to ask them for glasses with ice. The appetizer was really great although I would probably not recommend to have one each as it was a bit buttery (sharing one would have been the better choice). Not 2 minutes later the main course arrived. It looked great. My mashed potatoes were cold though but I didn't want to have them take away my plate again to warm the potatoes, I wasn't going to let them take those two thick cut flank steaks out of my sight...heheh.  As I look back now, maybe a gravy boat full of hot gravy was supposed to accompany the potatoes when they served the meal (I remember a 1/4 full gravy boat being on the table from the previous customer's meal). So we started on the main part of the course, the steak. Now I am not sure if it was imported beef but in my opinion, I think it was. If it was not, it was still surely delicious... cooked medium rare as requested and very tender with great flavor. There was no need for any worchestershire or steak sauce. To me, if it is a good steak, you don't need those add on's, the flavor of the steak with the chef's seasonings/marinade is already enough. It was then that I noticed that they forgot to bring us our soup. So after we told the waitress, she brought it to us. Once she left, we noticed that they didn't give us any spoons to eat the soup with. So after getting their attention again, we could try it. It was smooth and hot but tasted like they used water rather than milk or cream as a thinner. It was more tasty after I added a little black pepper (I use pepper on almost everything, rather than using salt). The green beans were good and not over or undercooked. We both could only finish one each of our own two pieces of steak, so we took the leftover with us. The food was great to me (with the flank steak being a real star).

I couldn't believe that the price came in at under 900 pesos for two complete steak dinners with two appetizers and soft drinks. The meals were VAT inclusive and there was NO service charge added. We left a good tip considering the service. This is because I realized that they were very busy, that it was Valentine's (what girl wants to spend their Valentine's Day serving happy couples?), yet they remained very friendly throughout. Will surely go back there again, and maybe soon. I am sure that the service will be better and the delicious steaks will arrive faster. Like the previous reviewer wrote about Carlito's -- "Lami and affordable... try their Flank Steak"

BTW: I ended up out of the doghouse after that meal (and the flowers...heheh).

I still think my own home-grilled Montreal Tri-Tips are the best, but it's so great to have someone else do all the work and you just sit there and eat
