hmmm murag confusing lage ni imoha computation bro
usually murag mhz increase ra man basihan sa % OC
dili man gud ingog frequency x core ang pagkuha sa final speed sa procie and dili man mo matter og pila ka cores pero dili lang gyud pwede single core as per naa sa contest rules

this is the reason why i ask but I don't think sad nga the normal ((oC mhz - stock mhz)/stock mhz) computation would suffice as 4 cores against two cores is faster and has actual increase in the raw power of the CPU . . .

so unsa kaha ang computation for this?
i have a phenom 550 coming and i'm planning to find time for this since this is the first CPU in a long time that i'm impressed with price wise and performance wise.

Lunch/Dmelsie - just had my first AMD rig and it's very interesting to discover new things/tricks it can do and would like to experiment but don't know where to begin with as I don't quiet understand the part wherein you can make 2 cores into 4 cores? I read somewhere that the X3's have one core disabled in the factory for whatever reason and some mobo's can enable them and gain extra core for the price of 3 cores. Is this the case? or is it the same as i7 wherein it has 4 physical cores but if you enable HT you will gain 4 more virtual cores which will give you total of 8 cores. Whatever it is, is it safe to assume that if we are talking in race cars terms: if you enable cores you gain horsepower (more workers), if you overclock you gain top speed (km/hr?) It's very fun to discover new things each day from the masters

kini, alegre na ni kay mangapil na ang mga Phenom II, regarding sa computation its still the same, whether its dual core, tri-core, quadcore, the same ra. OC speed minus Stock speed divided by the stock speed (OC-Stock /Stock).

@ CE:

yup ang X3 kay disabled ang 4th core ana, pero naa uban board nga pwede nimo ma activate ang 4th core sa bios. i forgot the models ang brands of these boards. i google lang kay ako to nakit-an somewhere. try guru3D.com

phenom 550 is going to be the new OCs toy.

so far unlocking the extra two cores have proven to be stable unlike the 720 be. it is also operating at lower watts.

the boards that you can use are gigabyte, dfi, asus, and even the 4000+ pesos biostar (redfox) which is available at pcx.

the trick is to use the old bioses since amd released new microcodes to disable the unlocking feature. Gigabyte however told amd to screw it and so their boards still carry the old microcodes to enable unlocking. I think Asus is also following suit. I haven't seen any announcement from DFI but so far their AM3 boards unlock.

take a peek of what these babies can do. . .

1) Gigabyte stand re microcodes.

2) All on air,unlocked, 3.8 ghz at stock volts, "3900mhz+ required a smal bump to 1.44volts Stock NBvid ","4000mhz @1.48volts NBvid= 1.2volts"
DavyJones Eat your Heart out..Calypso is a BEast - XtremeSystems Forums

3) all on air, 4ghz with 2 cores at 1.328volts only using foxconn, 4ghz 4 cores unlocked at 1.48v using dfi,

AMD Phenom II X2 550 BE OC - XtremeSystems Forums

4) all on air, 3.7 ghz unlocked 4 cores using biostar

DavyJones Eat your Heart out..Calypso is a BEast - Page 3 - XtremeSystems Forums

5)also even at stock, the phenom 550 is better price to performance wise than the more expensive e8400. the e8400 has proven to be more of a delicate proc in terms of OC because you have to watch your voltage so as not to fry it. . .

Athlon II X2 250 and Phenom II X2 550 BE review

6) unlocking database, check steppings here for successful unlock.

good news is i handpicked some steppings. . . hehe

as what AMD told us during their product orientation last week at Marriott, the Black Editon Phenoms are more OC capable compared to non black edition Phenoms.

the new generation x4's which will come out after the phenom x2 550 i think will OC well too.
i have not really found time to tinker with other stuff but i am really excited on the new phenom 550 as an OC toy. the last time i was really impressed with a chip was with the dual core opterons which had good OCs at stock voltage.
As much as possible, i only want to OC 24/7 with stock CPU volts or a slight bump because it means more stability for your system.

. . . and based on the reviews, it is an awesome chip price to performance wise.

black editions have unlocked multipliers so easier to play around with and OC with but it still depends on the steppings.

pwede sad tingali himuon in the future benchmark increase percentage from stock to OC. because i don't think (OC-Stock /Stock) takes into consideration actual mhz gained with the new x2s being unlocked to x4.
just a thought.
