Yup nasugdan na ang approach to the tunnel.. It's very similar to the Cross-Harbour Tunnel in Hongkong.. Pero wala pa nasugdan ang actual nga pag burr-hole..

Wa pa koy idea sa DOT building bai sa SRP but what I know is that naa na ilang temporary office sa DECS, Sudlon.. DOT Undersecretary ang nag manage didto karon..

The Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) hopes it can start working on the P1-billion additional terminal building, to accommodate the increasing number of airline passengers.

This will give the MCIAA another reason to celebrate, as it marks its 15th year as an international airport on Dec. 16.

MCIAA General Manager Adelberto Yap said the construction of the new international terminal will start soon because the airport is expected to serve five million passengers annually by 2010.

Mactan airport was opened to international traffic in 1990, after the passage of Republic Act 6958 or MCIAA Corporate Charter, which was sponsored by Rep. Raul del Mar (Cebu City, north) and then senator John OsmeƱa.

At present, Mactan airport caters to 2.5 million passengers.

Assistant General Manager Ildefonso Lazaro said more foreign tourists and businessmen are interested in coming to Cebu because Mactan airport is only two to four hours away from 14 major cities in the Asia-Pacific region.

Bridges, ramp

Lazaro said MCIAA will also build two boarding bridges and develop another 50,000 square meters of lot as parking ramp for wide-bodied aircraft.

The airport plays a vital role in Cebu’s economy, especially for multinational companies at the Mactan Economic Zone.

MCIAA has a total land area of 1,020 hectares, 475 of which are used for commercial purposes.

Although the ownership of the 255-hectare lot at the Mactan Benito Ebuen Air Base was placed under MCIAA by RA 6958, the Philippine Air Force only turned over 100 hectares because of an executive order issued by then president Fidel Ramos retaining 155 hectares for the Philippine Air Force.

The 100 hectares were developed by the Aboitiz Group and is now the site of Mactan Economic Zone 2, from which MCIAA receives 40 percent of its income in rentals. (EOB)
