2012 has been quite a ride for us. But before anything else, allow me, on behalf of the iSTORYA.NET Team and Moderators, to greet each and every one of you - "Have a Wonderful Christmas and a Meaningful New Year!".
Now back on topic, 2012 has been a unique year for us. We saw great opportunities and faced interesting challenges. We turned 10 years and grew in all aspects - from traffic to our maturity as a community. Our front-end and back-end were both upgraded - we installed vBulletin 4 and increased our processing capacity - new and faster servers. Then we faced the prospect of downgrading them or shutting down as the financial obligation that came with the upgrades almost made it impossible for us to sustain our operations. Being based in Cebu is not easy for a website like us. It is very challenging to sell advertising and the returns of "network ads" isn't very promising. Despite these challenges, we held on and we held strong. Like our startup story, we had to heavily tilt our finances to iSTORYA's favor... and in the nick of time, someone came to our rescue. Our unlikely hero is a woman named Cathy - our account manager from Google. With her patience and guidance, we managed to increase our income and keep our servers running.
We sure had a roller coaster ride but what's life if it's flat?! Moving forward, we are excited with what 2013 has to offer... and to give you a glimpse of what's coming, here is a list of what's planned.
- More and more articles. We had a good start, we'll make it better!
- Did someome say raffles? Yes, 2013 will see the introduction of more raffles.
- More Moderators. We will see some more "green" usernames in 2013. Whoever guesses a name will get a prize!
- New Buy/Sell services or products. We noticed that it is getting harder to get noticed, we may have a solution to offer.
- More partnerships. We will start to forge partnerships to make your time here more worthwhile.
- A new theme. We are currently testing 2 themes but are leaning towards a "Metro" inspired one.
Over the years we have grown to become the best and strongest online community in the Philippines and for that we thank all of you. Without your continued support and cooperation, this lifelong journey wouldn't have been as exciting. We are more than just talk! We look forward to spending more time with you guys as we continue to reach out and bridge gaps.
See you all in 2013!
Gerald "BeoR" Yuvallos
P.S. - I'd like to personally send my thanks to my wife Janice and Vern for helping me manage the site. To all of our Moderators for helping us keep everything in order. To Norman, our Marketing Director, for coming up with brilliant ideas and partnerships to make our community better. To Arlyn, our Editor-in-Chief who, despite the odds, always comes out to inspire each and every one of us with her stories. To our writers for all of the wonderful reads. To our partners for giving us the opportunity to be a part of their story. To everyone, you are our family and we are proud to have spent all these years with you.
