that ranking aformentioned is purely based on the passing percentage of various board exams and to think uscs' strong point is in arts and sciences .. prc and ched did not consider research breakthroughs/outputs to society, academic linkages to various institutions here and abroad, community extension, peer review, level of instructions(faculties with pHds and Masters degree) prestige here and abroad and etc tsktsk... just my two cents anyway... BTW here is the latest rankings 1999-2005 1. University of the Philipines-Diliman 2. University of Santo Tomas 3. Saint Louis University, Baguio City 4. University of the Philippines-Los Banos 5. first of all we don't wear uniforms here, so that's a major factor why i attended this school. uniforms in college? c'mon gimme a break. i'm not too familiar with the other programs here so i can't say much whether they're good or not. but i know that Law, Business, & Accounting programs here are pretty good. definitely the allied health sciences here can compete with the best out there. also the medical school opened a couple years ago. we also have our own medical center here. the major classes require a 2.5 grade to pass. i think the average tuition is around 35,000 - 40,000+ per semester. but don't quote me on that. you can double check. i love the laid back atmosphere of the campus, love the tall acacia trees that shades the whole campus from the searing sun. and i love the fact that the ocean is just a stone's throw away. silliman was founded by american missionaries in 1901, the first protestant school in asia. i think silliman university would be a good school for those students who like the small town charm laid back atmosphere, away from the hustle and bustle, not to mention the pollution of a big city like manila or cebu. the school is conducive to some major studying. not to say students here don't know how to have fun, just that it's not like cebu or manila where there are malls around every other corner. coming from San Francisco, California - studying here is a major change for me, but it's cool. don't mean to brag but i'm proud to say i'm a Sillimanian ![]() if you want to find out more about Silliman just visit: su.edu.ph www.SillimanUniversity.net www.weeklysillimanian.net |
