to those who like to take bs-biology/bs-mar biology, i recommend usc.

i hav friends from UP, i told them that im a bit intimidated evrytime i meet someone from that school because of the reputation of its students to be a very intelligent. but they told me nga dili jud tanan taga UP bright.

i guess its true coz i used to hav 2 transferee classmates from UP, i dunno y they transferred to usc. i expected them to excel in our class but they wer jus average, i dont know how they passd upcat. one of them even dropped out in our toughest subject. i was a bit surprised, to hav someone passed the Upcat and yet unable to survive in our class. that guy was quite memorable coz he kept on mentioning UP as a reference, it was kinda annoying coz it reeks off arrogance.

about USC having a mix population? wats wrong with that? nindot hinoun na kay ma exopose ka to all types of people. sa skol, naay mga pure genius, mga naning nga bright, mga slow learner, mga hagbungonon, mga bugoy og palahubog pero bright diay. naay mga super rich, naa sad mga humble nga datu mokaon sa carenderia, mga middle class, mga dili riich, mga feeling rich. mga social climbers, mga ambisyosa. naa tanan! diversity.

based on my experience, the teachers at usc dont necessariy adjust their method if there are slow learners in the class. its up to the students to exert extra effort in catching up, otherwise theyl be left behind. mas daghan bright compared sa mga "noobs".

yeah well kanang magda2x sa ngalan nga UP then dropout diai, well dile man na cla graduate bai. ang tinuod gyud kay kato gyung nigraduate sa ilang respective courses. actually gamay ra jud mograduate from UP. daghan ang makasulod. and tinuod nga gamhanan mao nalang ang magpabilin. and UP sayon ra man sudlan, pero LISOOOOD kaau makalingkawas/makagraduate.

What is really the best gauge to determine the performance of a university? Is it facilities? Amount of money received in grants? Number of alumni who go on to become presidents/senators/congressmen?

While there are any number of criteria to consider in ranking any group of schools, a survey by Philippine Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) assessed university performance by looking at graduates of the same programs.

The joint study, published in 2005, looked into the performance of Philippine universities in the various national board examinations. The study ranked the universities based on the average passing in the national board examinations of all courses from 1999 to 2005.

The top 20 schools in the country, based on this criteria are:

2. University of Santo Tomas
3. Saint Louis University, Baguio City
4. University of the Philippines-Los Banos
5. Xavier University (Ateneo de Cagayan)
6. Ateneo de Davao University
7. Ateneo de Manila University
8. Silliman University
9. University of San Carlos
10. Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Tech
11. University of the Philippines-Manila
12. De La Salle University-Manila
13. Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila
14. University of the Cordilleras(Formerly Baguio Colleges Foundation)
15. University of Negros Occidental-Recolectos
16. Mindanao State University-Gen Santos City
17. Polytechnic University of the Philippines
18. Mapua Institute of Technology

What is encouraging to me about this list is the presence of many schools that are located outside Manila. Gone are the days when scholastic excellence existed only in the capital region. Mindanao is well-represented, as are the Visayas and Cordillera regions. Students no longer have to go to Manila in order to have a world-class education. These students are more likely to stay in their home region, and in the long run, contribute to its development.

The basis of this list is obviously not the only one that can be used to compare schools to one another. It is also not the most comprehensive or objective. Given a different set of criteria, this list could be different. In the end, we don’t really want only one “best” university, do we?
