Greetings geeklets! I will still be going to Ayala tomorrow, but perhaps it would be fun to stay in Bigby's instead, because Eastwest ran out of potatoes. Yes, we are that insatiable.

Anyway, yes, vemp and I had a drink n' draw session today; but we met mainly because we had stuff to buy in the mall, so we figured what the hell. I will be present tomorrow, and today's session will not detract from our collective awesomeness in any way. I'll be brining cmontoya's copy of Wonderlost 2 as well. I also plan to start/work on page 3 of the 6-pages I'm working on. I'll be finishing page 2 here at home in a coupla hours or so.

Today's drawing session was not very well attended but it was still quite satisfying, because we got to spend a solid two hours actually making some drawings. Vemp and I got to review nerdling Suede's first (I think) attempt at sequential paneling, which was good fun to do. It was a good page, but there were some minor problems that were easily fixed once standard comic reading practices and habits were taken into consideration.

As promised, cmontoya brought his little... lady... doll... and I tried to draw Thor while its barely covered stripper-breasts pointed right at me through a clear plastic wall. Men and there dolls. Cmontoya also gave away the pages for some anime book, the majority of which I ended up with.

So I have this large book of big-eyed cutesy girls in my bag just waiting for me to check it out. Yeah, I think that can wait for tomorrow. Thanks though, dude. I'm sure these will come in handy... eventually...

I just found the time to do some scanning, so I'm posting these artifacts from our "Tarzan Day." Ah. Fun fun.

@ja: You're welcome dude. Thanks for signing & dedicating WL2 (@all: Palit namo, let's support ja) I haven't read WL2 yet because I forgot to
buy a clear plastic sleeve for it yesterday. I want it to be as near-mint as possible. It could be worth a million dollars one of these days but
even if it won't, it's a gentle reminder of what could be achieved with practice, passion, and a pencil (er, I run out of p words). Contratulations
and don't give up!

Yesterday's sessions was "productive", if I might say. I was surprised when John told me about the comments that I gave Rey's page, well, I dunno if I got it right, but reading a lot of comics might do that to you (or me). Also, I was given a lesson on shadowing. As much as I like shadows, I'm still pretty much left in the dark (shadows, dark, get it? hehh) and John kinda gave me an idea how to better myself at doing it. So instead of copying, I'll study the shapes to get the shadows correct. Yes, copying is bad, although referencing is ok, just don't swipe it.

We did Luke Cage for yesterday's session. I have mine up on my site (http://aftercall.wordpress.com), but here's the image for you lazy clickers.

I appreciate nitpickers and telling me what they can see is wrong.

Also, I'm not a big fan of anime. The artbook Carlo gave out has pretty art in it, it's just not my cup of tea (or beer).

nitpik.. hmm.. okay ra na, vemp. I kinda like it.. you have your own thing going on. uhmm.. left arm looks kinda short.. dunno if it's foreshortening .. nah, it's a little short. left shoulder can also use a little less shadow.

Yeah that reminds me. Vemp spotted a few sequential clarity issues that were in Suede's draft. Issues that I completely overlooked. Damn. And I'm not saying that Suede's work was bad, it was actually pretty damn good for a first serious attempt at layout. That said, apparently Vemp has a much better eye than me when it comes to tagging. Here's hoping he takes it somewhere.

I would really love for everybody to try their hand at sequentials at some point in the future. This is a comic book club after all. Pin-ups are fantastic of course, but I really believe that there are many more opportunities to learn from each other when we are trying to draw objectively --- meaning, drawing with a story in mind. I know I learned a little something, I can only hope my little "tip" about a minor camera in one of Suede's panels actually made sense. Heh.

Here's what I did last Sunday

I did a Luke Cage piece as well. It's over at http://johnamor.wordpress.com

Heh-hah!

@zerk: She does look like Power Girl albeit less muscular. But who cares, she has the two more important qualities of PG! Hapit nako mupalit action figure but decided not to because of the simple sculpt.

I didn't think it was possible to get swamped with personal projects, but here we are.

I'm still on page three of my six-page sample set for Nextwave. That's slow going, but at least I'm happy with how it's looking so far.

I'm set to draw a few cartoony caricatures of some friends who run a site. I've been meaning to do this before continuing the Nextwave stuff, but I can't seem to find my center with this particular project.

When those two are done, I plan (albeit ambitiously) to draw either Ewan McGregor or Tim Roth as Spider Jerusalem and send it to Warren Ellis for kicks. Seriously. Might be fun.

--------------------------------------------

Vemp and I plan to hang at Eastwest on Saturday afternoon. From what I can tell, I don't think there is a Sunday meeting this week.

Go.
