@LostSoul and vemp, literature published before 1950 is considered in the public domain but there are exceptions like Agatha Christie's works.

But if its for private enjoyment and practice, please just place a caption giving credit to the author, the year it was published and the published source as reference (example: Original Story by HP Lovecraft, March 1931) and I think it would be okay...
