@cmontoya

i cud come on the 15th meeting if youll ask me. i also have to give vemp his doobidoo!

bai, hope u wont mind, but i suggest you come with us to the seminar. it will give you an edge, knowing how writers think and all that. and besides, with your genre of comics, youd probably write and illustrate your own book. just a suggestion.

yeheeey! zerk man is coming!!!

I don't think it will take much to illustrate scenes from "Inday wala si ma'am ... Huwag po koya."

I've posted below another article regarding the Caparas couple's " Komiks Caravan"

Excerpt from http://www.mb.com.ph/issues/2007/03/...033190836.html
_________________________________________________
Golden Couple spearheads ‘Komiks Caravan’

After launching the "Gantimpalang Carlo J. Caparas sa Katha at Pagguhit" to help revive the komiks industry, "golden couple" Carlo J. Caparas and Donna Villa spearheaded another laudable move, the "Komiks Caravan." This was established recently with the cooperation of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Komisyon ng Wika.

The initial "Komiks Caravan" seminar was a huge success and this is why Carlo and Donna now plans to hold more seminars in the coming weeks. "Lilibot kami sa buong Pilipinas, iikot sa mga barangay. Bibigyan namin ng outlet ang mga may talento sa pagsusulat at pagdudrowing sa komiks," Donna explained. "Ako mismo ang kakausap sa mga publisher, para magkaroon ng trabaho ang mga mangagawa sa komiks, mula kwentista, dibuhista, imprenta at pati na mga nagtitinda at nagpapaarkila ng komiks."

The golden couple cited President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for giving the prestigious Presidential Medal of Merit for komiks legends, including "Komiks King" Carlo J. Caparas. "She is the only sitting president to open the doors of Malacañang Palace to the komiks people. Sa ginawang yong ng Pangulong Gloria, lalo kaming nagkaroon ng pagkakaisa sa komiks...lalo naming pasisiglahin ito, knowing that the president is behind us!" Carlo and his friends in the industry promised.

The "Komiks Caravan" will be in the Visayas this summer giving seminars on how to write scripts and how to illustrate these scripts. Carlo will provide his own komiks script for the aspiring writers to serve as their guide in composing their works. Carlo believes that the learning process will be that easy, if his style in writing komiks scripts will be learned by newcomers.

"Komiks scripts is only the beginning...through this medium, they can shift to teleplays and movie scripts," Carlo said. And we tend to believe him. After all, the komiks king is also the creator of TV blockbusters and movie box-office hits.

Twenty years after Carlo vanished from the komiks world to concentrate on his private life and filmmaking with his wife Donna, the Komiks ing is back in his kingdom, dubbed as the illustrated theater of the world - Komiks!

"It’s payback time," Carlo exclaimed. "Utang na loob ko sa komiks ang lahat ng ginhawa ko sa buhay. Dahil sa komiks, napunta ako sa pelikula, at dahil sa pelikula, nakita ko si Donna!"

Carlo admitted that his unprecedented retirement from his medium created a huge vacuum that never was filled up and a big contibutory factor to the slump in the komiks industry - never to regain its lost glory.

On her part, Donna said that she herself has profited much from komiks. Her first films were all from komiks serials, written by her husband, like "Paano Hahatiin ang Puso," "Andres de Saya" and "Tuklaw," to mention just three.

When Carlo, in a hear-to-heart talk with his wife, narrated the present plight of the komiks industry, Donna lent her helping hand and expertise to Carlo and his friends who were then busy preparing for a komiks convention. Before they knew it, the megaproducer has shelled out a huge amount to perk up the ongoing contest for komiks writers and illustrators, the "Gantimpalang Carlo J. Caparas sa Katha at Pagguhit."

The komiks karavan is Donna and Carlo’s way to help even more the aspiring writers and illustrators that would play a big role in reviving the komiks industry.

@HbH:

I am confused. Will the activity on April 24 be a comic book writing seminar or a comic book making seminar? I do not see any projector, whiteboard or people
carrying sketchbooks so I am not sure what the actual content of the seminar is. Can we ask your contact to post the details of said seminar here?

@all:

From Mr. Gabby Abellana

Cebu Academy of Arts is now open for registration from 9 am to 5 pm. You can contact this number (0917 492 8402) for questions or clarifications or you can visit us at
Marcelo B. Fernan Cebu Press Center, 2nd Flr., DepEd Compound, Sudlon, Lahug, Cebu City. They said they can arrange special classes after 5 pm but unfortunately I
still could not make it because of my busy work schedule. Bwaaa!

@cmontoya, bro, I think the primary purpose for the said seminar is to mainly discuss the plight of the comic scene here in the Philippines, the problems that lead to the decline of its popularity at present and also for networking; they're trying to discover and foster new talents (writers and artists) that will help bring new blood to the Filipino 'komiks'.

They're not really actually going to teach anyone how to make comics I guess in terms of the seriously technical aspects(after all its just one day) more like its an open forum where aspiring writers and comic artists can ask questions about the current industry, how to break in and most importantly, propose comic projects to Mr. Caparas and the NCCA representatives who will be present there.

I agree with Diem; if this seminar includes komiks drawing (and I suspect it does), such a lecture or workshop or session would probably be somewhat like that "Comic Book Greats" show with Todd McFarlane, Rob Liefeld, Jim Lee and Whilce Portacio in it (except that we get to be like Stan Lee and pester the teaching artists with questions) and not like that Stephen Platt comic-book pencilling tutorial video.

Furthermore, I have a hunch that the komiks drawing part of this seminar, if it does have one, would dwell more on composition of a komiks page (with a likely emphasis on storyboarding) and less on anatomy, perspective, foreshortening and all else.

However, I think any of us can still approach a teaching artist of this seminar to have his or her past works criticized, how briefly these may get to be examined.

As for Costanilla, can you send him a text message, Carlo? I'm using Chikka (because I don't have a cellphone), you see, and I'm bothered by the fact that he has to spend more to be able to reply to my message through the service.

Feast!

I suspect that this would just be one of the armors Stark will use in the film.
