@cmontoya, bro okay lang
Anyway I could support the group's efforts in creating comics I would be willing and eager to help I'm keeping an eye on you guys. Hehhehe.As you may well have heard, my forte is often short stories but I am eagerly pushing for novella length pieces(you could check out Bless My Blade work in Istoryan Writers). For now, one of my goals is to generate enough material to form a 'light' novel, something popular in Japan and Taiwan. These are simply short novels which feature comic-inspired illustrations. @diem: Could you share some links as to what these light novels from Japan and Taiwan looks like? Are they similar to the many illustrated novels or story books available in NBS? I think it would be easier for me to illustrate these type of novels first before I take a shot at true sequential art. I just hope that my 2007 goal would be met so I can start working with you on the erotica thingie

@cmontoya, bro you could check out the Wikipedia definition of light novel here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_novels And since I said that this literature medium is popular in Japan and Taiwan, the artwork is somewhat 'manga' like in looks. But I believe that any creative art style can be applied. One of the popular pioneers of this type is the Vampire Hunter D novels by Hideyuki Kikuchi and featuring illustrations by renowned Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano: http://www.altvampyres.net/vhd/vhdthumb.html http://www.altvampyres.net/vhd/vhdtext.html And I guess you probably heard of the heroine Lina Inverse of Slayers fame. The adventures began life as a series of short stories. http://www.inverse.org/e/books/novels/#About What we do in life echoes throughout eternity~ Please support your lokal artists and their efforts to promote the Cebuano identity and culture!

@cmontoya, bro for the art contest submission and guidelines, there are things to consider:
1) What are the art mediums allowed? For uniformity's sake, there should be at least a standard paper size of the entries. 2) Would the contest allow multiple submissions from one artist? Or only one entry per artist? 3) Are artworks produced from collaborations allowed? And I found this online, based on the Komikon 2005: RF ONLINE GRAPHIC NOVELS CONTEST Be a part of another Level Up! revolution as RF Online brings its community to a different level: GRAPHIC NOVELS. http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=90310 dont know if you have heard or read of Dirk Manning's articles, but it's an interesting read. Hope it helps. It pretty much discusses the do's and dont's in the comic book industry. Hope it helps you in some way. |

@santini, my deep thanks for relaying to me that link. Learned a lot.
Being an aspiring screenwriter for the past 3 years, I am well aware of the underhanded moves and motives of show business. I've met my fair share of disappointments and frustration, especially with One Lokal Big Name in both the film and comic industries in the Philippines. Share you with that funny tale sometime. Through Dirk Manning's article I could see that the same goes for the business of comics publishing. Oh well, we've got to keep on trying
