Default Book places here in Cebu

I'm an avid book reader. But I rarely buy books because sometimes the good ones are in the P300 above bracket and I know that even I buy them, after 3 days, i'll be one and the book will be forgotten (unless it's very very memorable, like Elvenbane and Elvenblood. But that's very rare.) in the shelves.

Do you guys know where I can find a place to rent out fantasy and sci-fi novels? See, I figure, it's beter for me to borrow a book, finish it up in 3 days, then return it instead of letting it gather dust on my shelves, wasting money.

Thanks a lot to those who can help out.

Hello. You're in Bacolod, right? Wala diay rentahan ug books diha?

I know a place in Dumaguete, near the tiangge. I forgot the name of the shop, pero tago siya, owned by a Chinese couple. Daghan sila'g books nga parentahan, naay mga sci-fi novels.

I don't know if there's such a place in Cebu. Cefe Intelleto ra ako nahibaw-an, in Mango Square.

Hey, you guys here in Cebu, wouldn't it be nice if we start a book club?

I'm FROM Bacolod. I'm in Cebu right now studying for the board exams. I'll be here until February.

In Bacolod, there are a lot of places to rent books. That's why I'm asking if there are such places here in Cebu because I have never seen a place with as many bookstores as Cebu. Everywhere I look, there's a place where one can buy books. So I expected that there would be book rental places here too.

Book clubs? I dunno. I can't len anything because most of my books are fantasy and they're all back home. I think I'd rather pay to borrow books than sheepishly give some half baked reason why I can't lend any books to the person I borrow books from. kinda leaves me red in the face, know what I mean?

Go to Cafe Intelleto in Mango Square. They have a good collection of books. I don't know if they also have sci-fi novels. Their membership fees (annual) range from 200 to 1,500 pesos.

@ Bahmat

Try Cebu Thrift House sa Manalili, sa may likod ng Gaisano Main... Don ako bumibili ng books. Mura lang, yon nga lang second hand pero in good condition. Ang mga best selling books like books ni John Grisham ay 60 - 65php lang..

I don't know kung nagpapa-rent sila... pero pwede trade in.

hello fellow bookworm. there are several kinds of membership to choose from kasi sa cafe intelleto. the 200 entitles you to borrow only pocketbooks i think. the next one, 500 i think it is allows u to borrow pocketbooks and children's books etc etc.

you may find cafe intelleto at mango square. that is just right across raintree mall, jollibee side. that reminds me...i really should renew bwahahahahaha.

to get to gaisano main from robinsons, take the 14D jeep at ramos and go down at the back of gaisano main. i think they pass manalili. not sure though ha...so ask the driver. wala man tingali book club sa thrift house...just a place to buy 2nd hand books from.

o hala...hope that helps u

What's the best I can hope from this Thrift Place? Best being something like Mercedes Lackey's Elvenbane to the worst being...oh I dunno. Think of something. There are so many bad fantasy books out there as well.

They sell magazines, too?

Thanks alot.

How does a book club operate? I ask because wala koy klaro nga idea what a book club is, or how it's supposed to function... Wala pa jud ko sukad naka-apil ug book club. Not in school or anywhere else.

Cafe Intelleto's "book club" is all about... you signing up for membership, then you get access to their collection of books. Then that's it.

My idea of a book club is more meaningful than that. You get together with people and you talk and talk and talk about books. Or you focus your discussion on a certain book, share ideas and impressions and reactions, etc. I thought a book club is supposed to be like that. Wouldn't that be more interesting and exciting?

Anybody here more familiar with running a real book club? Care to share your ideas? Kung naa tay maporma nga book club dire I'll be among the first to join!

Default Here goes...

let's give it a shot i haven't joined a book club but i've seen how the Oprah Book Club operates. Oprah chooses a book and all who wish to join reads it then they hold meetings where they discuss anything and everything about that particular book.

In our case, we could vote on a particular book we've read or want to read then we meet so we could talk about it. Or better yet, we could discuss it here in istorya. Maybe we could ask the administrators of istorya to devote a thread for our book discussions in Arts and Literature forum. But first, if you wish to join, post your name here. When we total to more than 5 members, then let's select a book.

Let's start with me I wish to join this book club. What shall we call ourselves, btw? Bookworms Unite?
