CentOS is a great Linux distro. It is actually the free version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (with the Red Hat branding removed).

Check out http://www.centos.org

Good thing about opensource is that it is virus free and you have control on your machine..I'm using fedora core 6 and my wife is using debian....great stuff guys...

I've got CentOS on my machine at home. I set up another server with CentOS a few months ago.

It's good that a congressman, of all people, is now aware of Free & Open Source Software and, in fact filing a bill in congress to be passed as a law the FOSS use. It's a breathe of fresh air, a step in the right direction. Hopefully, we will also celebrate soon the Software Freedom Month that other nations do every Spetember 16th to October 16th. I myself have been advocating FOSS use by using OpenOffice in all my work at the office, and using Opera and Mozilla Firefox as my browsers. At home I installed & used Ubuntu Linux.

The govt sector should use FOSS. Dapat mao lang na ilang gamiton so that maka save sila & that similar systems ang naa for compatibility reasons.. SMEs will follow then especially kung ang DTI and SEC mo una.

I know there applications nga sa Windows ra mo run but there are ways to make it run or alternative programs. Games ra and 3D ang lisod mo run or impossible under Linux. GPS also usually runs on MS operating system but pila ra man ka agencies ang mo use ani. Mostly, encoding. Pero govt agencies differ. There are nga P4 Core Duo ang CPU pero MS Office ra ang sulod. There are also nga 486 ra gihapon.

But I dont think there are really enterprise applications nga for FREE. Free but limited(features & users) and yet open source.

This is good news for every marginal PC user who have been struggling to have their desktops run because they can't afford the expensive proprietary OS in popular use in the market right now. Not until I read about FOSS last year from Rom Feria's column in Manila Bulletin did I experiment in accessing open source sites. I will support this advocacy by writing in my blogs, posting in forums, writing to our 7 Cebuano congressmen & possibly submit a write-up for newspapers or magazines. Right now I'm preparing 3 letters for Hon. Antonio Cuenco, Hon. Pablo Garcia Sr & Hon. Pablo John Garcia.

Some people in other forums defend their turf as they are true-blue Windows users and I have a hard time convincing those eggheads.

Don't worry. Better software will eventually show up to be the better choice. We just have to be patient and persistent. It's really difficult, but we can change the situation, one user at a time.

Do you belong to a group that is advocating FOSS & Linux? I heard of Linux Users Group in Manila & one in Cagayan de Oro, do we have a LUG here in Cebu? If there is, how may I process my membership or if there is none, why wouldn't we create one? As of now I have created some sites dedicated to FOSS advocacy:

http://opensourcecebu.multiply.com
http://my.opera.com/opensourcecebu

They have almost the same contents. I have my personal site also at Multiply which FOSS is mentioned and posted in my blog: http://nighthawk49.multiply.com.
