8.04 is supported until 2011updates. It will ask you if you prefer to update to the latest which is 9.04, one more month na lang and the karmic koala will be released in the wild.

What other OS allows you to update to the latest release via update manager?

Linux can be as "bug-at" or as light as you make it.

based from my experience linux is the most safest OS ive tried (i didn't say that there is no virus), and also linux has the lightest os, it can be run on USB Stick

linux is based from unix and Mac is also based from unix, not all linux mimics windows, but some distro does.. some linux distro already had a bundled application like office application and image editing softwares....

Pros
- Linux is much faster than windows, because it is lighter than windows
- Linux is more secure than windows (thou there some holes thou depends on the distro)
- Linux has lot of support thou not commercially since it is open source
- You can build your own linux distro if you are very good on programming
- Some linux distro is already bundled with free software and sometimes server
- And the best of all Linux distro is FREEEEEEEE (the best in this world is free), still linux had become the symbol of being free...

Cons
- Some linux distro is hard to install thou some are not... (Red Hat - the old version), sometimes first timer may encounter this one
- Application are hard to install (some distro but not all)
- Some linux distro had little hardware support thou some had
- Windows app can run on linux without using a wine

overall linux has lot of good stuff... and oh before i forgot... in linux i never encounter hang ups... unlike on my windows vista pag open pa lang hang-up na.... tsk100x

i based this from my personal experience from using, red hat, centos, ubuntu, im still downloading fedora then next is debian....

the reason why some people cant move out of windows, its because there is no door all just windows... bitaw.... most of the application we used are based on windows, thou it can be opened also in linux but it has some limitations... some gamers may be stucked on windows since most games are made for windows thou it can be run also in linux using wine... but still it is best run on windows....

overall if you use your computer to surf the internet, chat (except video chat there is still issue on this on some IM), open email, and open you documents... then linux is for you but if you are a gamer... well you are stucked on a house without a door....

very well said....

since the birth of computer era in our household (hehe) windows user jud ko... kani laging lapaya alamag sa mga butang..... just this year, i tried to install ubuntu together with XP (dual boot)... default OS nako sa grub is xp kay try2 raman ako....

but now, sa cgeg try2, and because user friendly sad ang ubuntu (if kabaw lang mogamit sa google if you encounter problems or dont know what to do) mao na akong cgeg gamit run...
i even decided to make my school project in ubuntu bisan windows amog gamit sa skul...

if nahan lang ka to use a windows program, u can use wine, like some of yahoo games.... heehhe...

there are lots of things to discover if newbie paka sa linux...

one last thing, last week na virus san akong windows, gipang hide ang mga folders... all i did is acces the files from ubuntu format the windows partition.. then restore my fresh image of windows para d na kapoy install from scratch...

one thing that i really like sa mga unix nga system is ang iyang security... mas vulnerable ang windows system no matter how advanced, fast, expensive your anti-virus or firewall, and most of all most hacker/cracker use unix system to breach network... right now nag experiment ko maski unsa nga linux...

one thing you have to consider, why did computer virus usually made for windows?, we cant tell if linux will overtake windows, linux has a cult while windows had only fans... and also a lot of virus coder hates bill gates because they consider bill as devils advocate... and most of all daghan sad kaayo buslot ang windows nga pwede i take advantage sa mga hacker/cracker/coder...

then again i cant say as to what is the future since both OS are evolving and continuously changing...

I think dili gihapon vulnerable. Kay one reason is kanang imong root account by default is not accessible. Second, every software nimo i-install/download kay naa sila mga file-signatures which you can compare if the file is correctly downloaded/installed.
