I also remember this quote somewhere. It went something like, "Your deepest desire is also God's will for you."

I believe our true purpose in life lies in our deepest being. What makes us truly happy, truly fulfilled? Or, what are those things that when we do them we feel truly alive, truly happy and joyful, and at peace, wherein we can say to ourselves, "This is it! This is what I was born to do! This is really who I am!"?

I believe that whatever those things are that make us truly happy and that truly satisfies our deepest desires, those are the things that God wants for us. If we discern and acknowledge and affirm that there is a God who exists, then we can also acknowledge that he created us, that he created our hearts and its needs and capacities, and that he knows our deepest longings, and whatever those things are that can satisfy those longings, those are also the things he desires for us.

I used to believe that our purpose in life is limited to a single task or a single vocation. I used to ask myself, What do I really want to do? Who do I really want to become? Will I be happy as a doctor? As a nurse, engineer, architect, or a teacher? I now believe that God's will for us is wider than that. I believe he will be happy with whatever will be our decision, as long as it will make us truly happy and fulfilled; he can be happy if we choose to become a doctor, for example, or an architect; those professions serve him in their own unique ways; the important thing is for us to be truly, genuinely happy.
