Greg Land is not a comic book artist. Period.
Keeping it Relevant Department: When I do research on a character's appearance (facial intricacies, body type, costume, mannerisms, etc) I try my best not to just look at one comic, because that increases the risk of me inadvertently channeling the style of whoever was drawing that particular issue. My own style doesn't have a strong enough "personality" to not be visibly influenced by outside sources just yet.
Seeing several artists do the characters allows me to have a broad view of the character, so I don't have narrow-view pads around my eyes like a horse dragging a cart. I'm sorry... that's the best analogy I can come up with.
When I'm researching on other stuff (background elements, vehicles, cloth, etc.) I use Google Images. The internet is my friend.
Recommended Reads: I've been enjoying the works of two upcoming writers lately.
Matt Fraction (Eagle Award winner for fave newcomer and Eisner nominee for best single issue) has just started what I'm sure will be a great first arc on Invincible Iron Man. Plus he's taking over Uncanny X-men with Ed Brubaker, his sparring partner when he was working on Iron Fist, which I'm sure all comic heads agree was awesome.
Jason Aaron is my second fave writer right now. He just concluded an arc in Wolverine that involved him simply chasing Mystique. It was quite literally Wolverine doing what he did best. And the blood factor was fantastic. Jason Aaron also does Ghost Rider.
