Default Re: Comic book drawing club/Comics movement here in Cebu!

Hello nerdlings, due to the recent decline of quality discussion in this thread, I would like to start and encourage people to talk about how important they feel about researching when starting a piece and how long it takes them to complete their research.

Great artists and writers research on the things they work on to ensure that it's realistic and it doesn't look and sound all made up.

As an artist, before I do a piece about a character that I have little or no knowledge, I would probably read a comic or two, then get reference pictures (usually just from the pages of the comics), then at first I would try to draw the character based off the comics. I literally copy how the character was drawn in the comics to my sheet of paper. That way, I'll have an idea on how to work on the character. It's basically like getting to know each other. After that, when I start on making the piece on my own, I keep the reference for quick checks.

Researching usually takes as fast as 15-30 mins, or as long as 2-3 days, it really depends on how I feel. For those who have deadlines, it's a whole lot different.

Now, share your thoughts.

Also, I recommend getting the Powers 2008 Annual, Bendis has a the letters page saved for an interview with several comics writers including, Brubaker, Fraction, Reed, Simone, and McKeever.

Also 2; if you feel tired of reading your mainstream Secret Final Invasion Crisis, I recommend reading Young Liars and House of Mystery, both from Vertigo.
