MV DOULOS – More than just a ship II

Posted: 12/20/06 1:24 PM by Jia Min

Doulos is home to 350 volunteers from 50 countries.

Crew

With so many nationalities and cultures onboard, Doulos is sometimes known as ‘The Floating United Nations’.

All crewmembers have left the familiarity of their home countries to live and work onboard Doulos.

Most of them have devoted 2 years to serve as fulltime volunteers, working without salaries.

Sailing with Doulos, the volunteers travel to different countries and interact with the locals.

Kids

In areas of great need or tragedy, the Doulos crew partners with local organizations to provide humanitarian aid and relief work.

* Doulos will be in Cebu, Philippines from 26 Jan – 19 Feb 2007 *

More details will be posted in the coming weeks.

MV DOULOS is one of the Shipoffice organization’s ships. It is actually a Christian Ministry that spreads gospel to the world but not only that, they extend their services to different countries by providing knowledge, help and hope.
I was lucky to talk to one of the crews back in September (who was still in Germany at that time, thank God for call centers hehe) and he did say he would try to mention it in one of their meetings to include Philippines again in one of their visits and I am surpsised he did. I would definitely visit the ship. I am inviting everyone to visit it as well. See ya there! God bless everyone.

pikotski – MV Doulous I think always have the Philippines in their stop-over itineraries. I visited this ship in Cebu long time ago, when I was still a teenager. I think it was during the mid to late 80’s.

asa man ni dapita sa pier sa cebu modunggo?

13 Comment by Pio Gerardo Solon — 01/10/07 @ 8:37 am

i think cebuanos really need to visit the ship.

I heard that around 10 years ago, ni visit sila sa cebu and then guess what? gikawat ilang propeller, na extend ug one month ang ilang visit kay gipadala pa man ang propeller gikan sa europe.

I hear it’s a bit older than the titanic. Or about the same age.

I never imagined that I had the chance to visit and tour the MV Doulos. It was a great vessel ever. Besides she’s just 2 years younger than Titanic. I was so eager to see the biggest floating book shop ever. Well I just wish that I could be one of the volunteers.
