History of Father’s Day (From the Net)
The celebration of Fathers day can most likely be credited to Mrs. John B. Dodd, of Washington State, who first suggested the idea of the holiday in 1909. The original date chosen for the holiday was June 5, Mr. Smart’s birthday, however the celebration was postponed until June 19, the third Sunday in June, because there was not enough time to prepare. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. Sonora having been raised by her father, Henry Jackson Smart, after her mother died, Sonora wanted her father to know how special he was to her. It was her father that made all the parental sacrifices and was, in the eyes of his daughter, a courageous, selfless, and loving man.
she is one woman who we have to thank for, for this yearly special celebration dedicated to dad’s.
My Father’s Day
For me and my sisters this means a cheaper way of spending because we are hitting two birds with one stone. We always buy 1 gift for 2 occasions. Our father’s birthday as of most of the time, falls on father’s day. hehehe…lucky for us. But for this year our father’s birthday is a day ahead of father’s day.
To my dad, Happy birthday Papa and a Happy father’s day for tomorrow. Thank you very much for everything that you have done for us and for always being there in your own silent way.
To my Hubby, advance happy father’s day Dad. thank you for doing your best, for being my best friend, for being a good dad and provider…thank you for everything.
