Bantayan Island is an island in the Philippines located at the western portion of the northern tip of Cebu. The island can be reached by ferry from Hagnaya Wharf in San Remigio, Cebu, or from Cebu City, or from Cadiz City in Negros Occidental.
The town is composed of three municipalities:
Bantayan, Cebu
Madridejos, Cebu
Santa Fe, Cebu
Summer time is here and for sure beaches and vacations always come to mind during these times. Bantayan is an option for those who find Boracay too expensive or too far. I personally haven’t been to Bantayan yet, I have been to Boracay though for a couple of times. But this place sure is in my wish list of places to visit.
As what I have heard Bantayan is almost like Boracay less the commercialized atmosphere. Same powdery, white sand beaches, crystal clear waters which is ideal for snorkelling or diving. There are also caves and dive spots to visit, just hire a boat to get you to the destinations you wish to visit.
By land, one can take the two-hour bus ride from the northern bus terminal in Cebu City up to San Remigo or drive your own vehicle. From there, inter-island ferries to Santa Fe in Bantayan Island and to Malapascua are available. For those who have their own vehicles the ferry charge is somewhere around P1,000++. There is also a night ferry from Cebu City to Sta. Fe; travel time is about nine hours.
A lot of resorts abound the area for different kinds of travellers. You can also bring your tent along if you are in a tight budget (as what a cousin of mine did, when they went there during the holy week). You can just rent the area where you are going to put your tent for the duration of your stay.
A lot of people find Bantayan an unforgettable place and always keep on coming back. I sure wish I could also do the same. =)

wow….what a nice place!!!plan to go there this holyweek….
what resort is this in the picture?
sure, Sta. Fe’s beaches can guarantee you an enjoyment when you spend your vacation or even only in a short span time. through its white sands which is smooth to your feet, the water is so clean and this is the place where you can find so much fun. so to have not yet visited or went to sta. fe try to go there, your money will not be wasted. happy spending vacation/swimming to everyone.
im an ilongga and ive heard a lot bout this place so decided to visit it juz last holy week.. i rily loved the place.. the crytal clear waters and powdery white sand is pretty similar to the ones in bora.. very nice place for an urban escape.. great place!!
i miss bantayan…
its rily d boracay of cebu…
im proud to b a bantayanon!!
wow! i wish i could be there…
I liked the island, but it is no Boracay. It is a nice, quiet and relaxng place, but it got old after 3 days, and we left early. There is almost nothing to do there except lay on the beach, maybe snorkel/scuba…but you can’t do this every day, or I couldn’t, anyway. I will go back, but not book it for a whole week though. The resorts are a little shabby, too. I stayed at the Marlin and the room smelled like mildew. Also not a lot of places to eat in Santa Fe, just a few tourist places and they ain’t cheap. I wrote about the place on my website above, if you are interested.
i would recommend sumilon island…it’s more private and you can do lots of things, too like trekking, snorkeling, etc….
WELL SONNER OR LATER IL BE IN BANTAYAN.. ITS A PROMICE.. THE EVALUTION OF PALARONG PAMBANSA WILL BE HELD IN BANTAYAN… SO SEE YOU THEN….
how i wish its still summer
wow nice place i really want to go there…
whats the nicest resort in bantayan island?
—-whats the nicest resort in bantayan island?
Probably the Marlin in Santa Fe
hi! any resort u can recommend? were going to bantayan end of the month….thanks
Just visited for a couple of days with my Philippine Fiancee and are very impressed, yes its not a young persons paradise as there is little to do,but if you want or need to relax with no noise and full mode bars around this is paradise. In my experience you don’t have to look far for restaurants, many different cuisines.
I wish to Congratulate the author of this web page as your words and photo’s are true to life.
We are taking friends from Australia back to see this truly magnificent Island.
Bantayan is actually an all year place, but its busiest is summer and they are especially packed during holy week. there are often comparisons with other places like Boracay but Bantayan does stand on its own merits… and for a native of Cebu like me, the one perk is its convenience, aside from its unspoilt beaches.
sa bantayan island jud na xa na pix???

nindot! ah! nice kaayo ang pagka shot sa pic, nice calm water serenating the hut wow!!!
